In 1983 Susan Shardlow and Louise Duffy hit on the idea of producing soft toys based on the famous May Gibbs’ books about ‘Snugglepot & Cuddlepie’. Rights to use the characters were negotiated with the Spastics Centre, which held the May Gibbs Estate, and the pair were ready to arrange for sample production to begin in Taiwan. The first samples arrived in time for the 1984 Toy Fair, and were so successful that the dolls went into full production overseas.  Information from Marjorie Faignes' publication "Australian Dolls - Yesterday & Today" 2003
